A New Year
Human conventions are such that we are now celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of a new one.
The fact that our planet has completed another rotation around the sun means that all of us realise that there is something new on the horizon.
Although the date is totally conventional, nonetheless we as believers can give it greater significance and make it a source of something special.
The completion of the cycles enables us to take stock of what has happened and to project towards what is to come.
Welcoming a new year in helps us examine what we have experienced, correct what we did not do well and plan for what we long for, seek and want.
As believers, we are in this particular moment in time in order to give thanks for the past, experience and celebrate the present and recognise with hope that a better future is possible.
At the beginning of 2019, I would like to invite you to assess, give thanks and look optimistically towards the future. May God, who has enabled us to get this far, accompany us in the work that lies ahead of us.
Sending you the blessings of Christ for this New Year.
