Meditation

Pope Francis has given special importance and meaning to Lent this year during the Jubilee Year of Mercy. He would like us to participate in this significant moment in order to experience God's mercy. One of the ways will be 'prayerful listening' to the Word of God. This means that it is not enough to 'read the Bible.' More than reading the Bible, we must listen to it, in an attitude of prayer, adoration and we must let ourselves be truly touched to the depths of our soul, to the almost inaccessible depths of our being.

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved.

The star stops over the cave and the Magi, illuminated by divine grace, recognise in this hovel the palace of the newborn King of Heavens. Very moved, they enter; but what is given to them to see so that they recognise the divine king, the Messiah? How certain are they, in the face so much poverty, that this trembling baby, in the arms of a young girl, is their God? …

Let the just rejoice, for their Justifier is born. Let the sick and infirm rejoice, for their Saviour is born.

The Church's liturgical pedagogy invites us to live every moment of our personal and communal lives in the light of the Word of God. At the end of the liturgical year, the Church encourages us to reflect upon the most important hour in our life, the hour of our personal meeting with the Lord on our deathbed.

O eternal Trinity! O deep ocean! What more could You give me than to give me Yourself? You are an ever-burning Fire; You consume and are not consumed.

O You, who drink deeply from the torrents of eternal delights and who inhabit that immortal country, that happy city, where solid riches abound!

When I am dead Cry for me a little Think of me sometimes But not too much. Think of me now and again As I was in life At some moments it's pleasant to recall But not for long.

O God, our Father, rich in love and mercy, we wish to pray to you with faith, for peace in so many countries of the world, for the numerous areas where there is fighting and hatred.

I know a source that gushes and flows But it is in the dead of night. This eternal source remains hidden, But I am not unaware of where it rises, And it is in the dead of night.
